Our Syllabus
The SCAMPS 'Junior Trainer' Series of books has been developed over several years to help students to learn all the fundamental aspects of playing their chosen instrument in a comprehensive and enjoyable course of lessons.
Accredited by the QCA, the books are designed to maintain students' enthusiasm as they progress through the course.
Simple and Engaging.
Featuring the characters from the SCAMPS band, each one is colourful and vibrant, presenting the material for each lesson in a fun and easy to understand manner.
Every book contains a certificate in the back which is completed by the tutor and awarded to the student on completion of the course of lessons.
Junior Trainer Books are only available for SCAMPS students or students of our business partners.

Junior Guitar Trainer Series
This series takes students from complete beginner to taking their first Grade exam. There are 4 Books in the series covering all the fundamental techniques and concepts that a developing guitarist needs to know about!
Guitar Trainer Book 1
Covers, amongst other things: essential musical concepts, basic plucking and strumming, simple chord based songs like 'Going to the Zoo' and 'Happy and You Know It', simple melodic workouts and some fun games!
Guitar Trainer Book 2
Following on seamlessly from the end of Book 1, Book 2 teaches students to read music by building their knowledge of notes on the first four strings of the guitar as well as furthering their chord knowledge and strengthening their technique. As students progress through the book, they learn many well known pieces and songs as well as some that have been written specially.
Guitar Trainer Book 3
Book 3 teaches note reading on the 5th and 6th strings, as well as introducing more advanced concepts and techniques as students work through it. On the successful completion of Book 3, students have a knowledge of all the fundamental concepts and techniques that they will need to start work on a grade level syllabus, like the SCAMPS First Auditions Book, or syllabuses from external bodies like Trinity Guildhall or Rockschool.
Guitar First Auditions - Guitar Trainer Book 4
Our own accredited exam syllabus
The First Auditions book completes the Guitar Trainer Series. The repertoire in it has been designed to be accessible and fun - It includes a wide range of musical styles and ensures that the key performance and technical skills a developing player needs are honed, and can be assessed during the examination, or ‘Audition’ when the time comes.
Candidates who are successful in the exam receive a nationally accredited qualification and a certificate of achievement.
Junior Drum Trainer Series
A comprehensive course comprising two books, the Junior Drum Trainer series take students from complete beginner to being fully prepared for the start of their work on a grade syllabus like the one from Rockschool.
Junior Drum Trainer Book 1
With the help of the included CD, this book takes students on a journey from when they first pick their sticks to playing pieces along with backing tracks on the CD using basic rock beats and fills. Along the way, students learn everything from basic sticking and rudiments to time keeping and beat building.
Junior Drum Trainer Book 2
Book 2 strengthens students' knowledge rudiments and their technique, and introduces more advanced beats and fills in many different musical styles including rock, pop, funk and punk. As with book 1, a CD is included which contains backing tracks to play along with and recorded examples for the student's reference as they work through the course.
Junior Keyboard Trainer Series
Comprising two books, the Junior Keyboard Trainer series helps students to develop from finding ‘Middle C’ for the first time to playing popular songs, and fully prepares them for the start of their work on Grade syllabuses for electronic keyboard, such as the one from Trinity Guildhall.
Junior Keyboard Trainer Book 1
The Junior Keyboard Trainer Book 1 introduces students to the wonderful world of the keyboard. The book covers the fundamental aspects of playing and operating a keyboard, with lots of fun pieces to play with both melody and chord parts as well as some fun games.
Junior Keyboard Trainer Book 2 (coming soon)
Book 2 continues the student’s progression by extending their chord knowledge and further developing their technique, focusing on playing chord parts with the left hand and melodies with the right. Along the way, students learn some well known songs like ‘When the Saints’, as well as many great new ones written specially for the book.
